FRED DONATES INSPIRATIONAL BOOK TO AREA JAILS
Fred Morelli has prosecuted, defended and tried many people in his 40 years as a prosecutor, public defender and judge. Knowing that people in trouble can turn their lives around, he donated 25 of author Robert Renteria’s book, From the Barrio to the Board Room, to each of the jails in Kane, Kendall and DeKalb counties last week.

“It seemed like the right thing to do,” Morelli said when he recently met his friend Renteria, who was promoting his book here in the Chicago area.

“Renteria’s story of growing up in a tough East Los Angeles neighborhood, getting involved in gangs and drugs, turning his life around, to now being president of a very successful company is truly inspirational,” Morelli added. “I just hope that the book can, in turn, inspire one of those in jail who reads it to try to make a change, and hopefully someday have the opportunity to contribute something meaningful to society.”

Renteria, who now lives in Chicago, started making better choices in his life after his estranged father died on skid row. After honorably serving seven years in the United States Army, he moved to Chicago and talked his way into a job at a laundry management and sales company that eventually led to a position as vice president of a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange. His success convinced him strike on his own, and now he dedicates his life to sharing his own story to people around the world.
